On Middle Bar Road, south of junction with highway 49, 4.5 miles south of Jackson. Note: beware of this site. The road here is trecherous and in very poor condition. Worse, this is a prime breeding ground for rattle snakes. Exercise extreme caution. Don't go here alone. You will not be able to call for help because you're in the middle of nowhere.
Waters from the Pardee Dam, six miles downstream, now cover this region of the Mokelumne River. Gold was mined here during the '49 Gold Rush period and again in the 1920's.
